Green Schools committee
The Green Schools Committee consists of individuals interested in fostering greener, higher performance schools. It is a diverse volunteer based committee comprised of Architects, Engineers, Attorneys, Contractors, Parents, Teachers and Students.
The Mission of the Green Schools Committee is to promote the economic, environmental, health and performance benefits of green high performance schools in New Jersey. The committee seeks to accomplish this by being New Jersey's foremost advocate of LEED for Schools and encouraging sustainable planning, design, construction, use, operation and maintenance, for public and private places of learning; providing a central resource for green schools in New Jersey; informing and providing resources to learners of all ages.
Currently the committee is divided into four areas of activity:
1. New school construction
2. Existing building operations and maintenance
3. Communications/Outreach providing information to the general public
4. Education/Curriculum development for existing school districts for use by all grade levels
The committee meets once a month where committee members have the opportunity to work in areas of their interest.
