Hospitality Committee
Mission Statement: The Hospitality Committee under the USGBC of New Jersey will educate hotels, casinos, convention centers and related facilities about best practices to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits. The main area of focus will be to facilitate carbon reduction goals, educate/train stakeholders, promote innovation and green job growth throughout the state.
Program focus:
1. Develop and pilot a Green lodging certification program under the travel green New Jersey online platform:
a. Test and develop a hotel certification for the State of New Jersey and in partnership with USGBC of New Jersey, Hospitality facilities throughout the state, Sustainable New Jersey, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Economic Growth and Green Energy Office, Travel and Tourism, academic institutions and other nonprofit organizations. Create an operational program that encourages the hospitality industry to decrease our environmental footprint, without sacrificing on service and improving their profitability. Train and educate facilities and share best practices and resources to drive innovation.
2. Green Job Development program for hotels and related facilities:
a. Implement Certification and Training programs with colleges, communities and organizations like LEED and other appropriate programs.
3. Advocate and promote Green building incentives aligned with state and federal programs for new and existing sites, encourage renewable energy usage and carbon offset programs.
4. Communicate and educate key stakeholders by holding meetings, conferences and training programs with appropriate organizations and government entities.
