About Us

Building a greener, healthier, wealthier New Jersey.

U.S. Green Building Council New Jersey

Founded in 2002, USGBC NJ is at the forefront of changing the way buildings in our state are designed, built and operated. Our goal is to be a leader in promoting the benefits of more sustainable homes, offices, schools, hospitals, theaters, retail spaces and more. ”Green” building makes communities more environmentally responsible and better places to live, learn and work.

Green building is a more than just environmentally conscious. It’s also economically sound. More and more homeowners, corporations, organizations and investors not only prefer more sustainable building practices, they demand them. Green buildings translate to lower utility costs, healthier living, better re-sale value on homes, and higher rents on commercial properties. The future of sustainable building looks bight. And greener by the minute.

USGBC NJ members are from all corners of the state, and are committed to the goal of a more sustainable built environment. Our membership is comprised of a variety of building professionals, nonprofits, educators and students, providing us with an unmatched level of insider knowledge and industry experience.

Here is some of our best-known work:

  • We have received over $1 million in education grants, from both federal and NJ state, which have been used for LEED and sustainability education for NJ businesses, veterans and unemployed.
  • We have donated to student groups and colleges.
  • New Jersey leads the nation with 37 LEED bills introduced, largely due to USGBC NJ. (See more info HERE.)
  • We have procured grant funding and donated professional services for Sustainable Master Plans at two NJ public schools.

Our Mission

To be New Jersey’s foremost leader promoting, advocating, and providing education for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of high-performance buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, cost-effective, productive, and healthy places to live, learn, and work.
