The first step to LEED certification is to register your project. A project is a viable candidate for LEED certification if it can meet all prerequisites and achieve the minimum number of points to earn the Certified level of LEED project certification. There are 136 possible points distributed across five categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality. There’s also an opportunity to earn an additional 6 points for Innovation in Design and an additional 4 points for Regional Priority.
